Russia and Ukraine engaged in a new wave of drone strikes overnight, which resulted in fatalities and injuries on both sides of the conflict. This information was reported on Thursday by both parties involved.
Since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Moscow has maintained a pattern of nightly drone and missile attacks targeting Ukraine. In response, Ukraine has conducted increasing long-range strikes within Russian territory, alongside attacks in border areas.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has dismissed calls for a ceasefire and has intensified military operations. His actions come in defiance of U.S. President Donald Trump’s commitment to supplying Ukraine with new weaponry, along with the imposition of severe sanctions if a peace agreement is not reached soon.
According to Russia’s defense ministry, its air defenses successfully intercepted 122 drones during the overnight attacks, with the majority downed in border areas. In the Belgorod region, a woman lost her life when an explosive device dropped from a drone struck a private residence. Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov shared this information via Telegram, noting that three civilians were killed in the same region the previous day.
In the Voronezh region, which also borders Ukraine, debris from a falling drone wounded three teenagers, according to regional governor Alexander Gusev’s Telegram update.
On the Ukrainian side, a single individual died due to Russian airstrikes in the central city of Dnipro, reported Governor Sergiy Lysak. The air assault included the launch of 64 drones, primarily aimed at the Dnipropetrovsk region, which encompasses Dnipro. Ukraine’s air force claimed to have shot down or neutralized 41 of these drones, indicating a reduction compared to recent nights when hundreds of self-destructing attack drones were deployed.
Additionally, Ukraine reported that three people were killed and at least 27 were injured from a Russian airstrike on the frontline town of Dobropillia a day prior to these events.
