President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine is at risk of losing its war against Russia if the US Congress does not approve a vital military aid package. The frontline city of Chasiv Yar is facing intense fighting, but the Ukraine military is resisting Russian forces. Russia claimed that a Ukrainian drone struck the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, which has been occupied since the invasion in 2022. Ukraine is urgently requesting the US to send a $60 billion aid package that has been blocked by Republicans in Congress.
Zelensky emphasized the critical need for US assistance, warning that Ukraine’s defeat in the war could lead to further attacks on other states. Russia has intensified attacks on Chasiv Yar, located near the important rail and logistics hub of Kramatorsk. The situation in the area is described as “difficult” and “tense” by a Ukrainian army brigade spokesman. Russia continues its offensive on small towns outside Chasiv Yar, resulting in casualties and destruction.
Russia reported destroying 15 Ukrainian drones near the border regions of Belgorod and Bryansk, leading to civilian casualties. Ukrainian drones have also targeted the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, raising concerns about the integrity of the reactor’s containment system. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) cautioned about the potential consequences of such incidents.
