The U.S. Army has released a whitepaper outlining force structure changes to accommodate modernization efforts and recruit shortages. The new force structure aims to reach 470,000 soldiers by fiscal 2029.
Key elements of the new structure include establishing theater-level multidomain task forces, investing in integrated air and missile defense, and reducing certain positions like engineer assets.
Efficiencies like reallocating engineer assets resulted in almost 10,000 space reductions. The Army also plans to reduce close combat forces and size of special operations forces to align with strategic needs and modernization efforts.
