The U.S. Air Force is considering the purchase of battery-powered planes, including the ALIA aircraft from BETA Technologies, with a goal to ease maintenance and operational logistics. After a three-month deployment at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, the electric planes completed over 55 missions. BETA, a Vermont-based startup, has opened a new production facility to meet potential demand from both commercial and defense customers. Hybridization of the aircraft for extended range missions is also being explored. The Air Force has invested in other electric aviation companies, including Joby Aviation and Archer Aviation.
