US forces have conducted air strikes against multiple Islamic State group sites in Syria. The strikes were conducted on October 11 and aimed to disrupt ISIS’ ability to plan and carry out attacks. The US military has around 900 troops in Syria as part of the international coalition against the Islamic State group, which was established in 2014. In September, US forces carried out two separate strikes in Syria, killing 37 “terrorist operatives” including members of IS and Al-Qaeda affiliate Hurras al-Din. US Central Command stated that damage assessments were underway and indicated no civilian casualties. Anti-IS coalition forces have been targeted by drones and rocket fire in both Iraq and Syria due to ongoing violence in the region.
