The US military seized Iranian-made missile parts destined for Houthi rebels from a boat in the Arabian Sea. The parts were seized in a Navy SEAL operation in international waters near Somalia, involving two SEALS who were reported as lost at sea. The seized items included propulsion, guidance, and warheads for Houthi medium range ballistic missiles and anti-ship cruise missiles, which the Houthis have used to threaten and attack merchant ships in the Red Sea. The boat was sunk, and its 14 crewmembers’ disposition was being determined. US and British forces have recently targeted rebel targets across Yemen in response to the Houthi attacks. US Central Command chief Michael Kurilla stated that Iran’s actions violated UN security resolutions and international law. The Houthis claim their attacks on shipping are in solidarity with Gaza, and the attacks have caused shipping to be diverted around Africa.
