The United States was not involved in an Israeli airstrike on Iran’s consular annex building in Damascus and was not informed in advance, officials said. Tehran has vowed to retaliate for the strike, which killed over a dozen, including senior Revolutionary Guards members. Both US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby and Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh stated that the US had no role in the strike and communicated this to Iran. Iranian state media reported 13 deaths, including two top commanders. The US could not independently confirm their identities, but confirmed that senior Revolutionary Guards leaders were killed.
