The U.S. Army plans to complete its multidomain task force structure by fiscal 2028, with the first MDTF established at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state in 2018. Another MDTF was established in Europe in 2021, and another in Hawaii in 2022. The Army plans to consolidate batteries under a Long-Range Fires Battalion and convert all brigade support companies to battalion design.
The first MDTF at JBLM will be fully established this fiscal year with various components, including a Multidomain Effects Battalion. The second MDTF will be headquartered in Germany with an MDEB and stationed in part at Fort Drum, New York. The third MDTF, headquartered in Hawaii, will also have a portion stationed at JBLM.
The fourth MDTF will be stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, focusing on the Pacific theater, with full establishment by FY27. The 5th MDTF will be located at Fort Liberty, North Carolina, operational by FY28. Placing an MDTF at Fort Liberty is considered critically important for lethal and non-lethal targeting capabilities to support the joint force.
