The U.S. Air Force and contractors Northrop Grumman and Aerojet Rocketdyne tested the solid-rocket motor for the LGM-35A Sentinel ICBM at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex in Tennessee. The test is part of efforts to modernize the nation’s nuclear deterrent.
The Sentinel program aims to replace the aging LGM-30G Minuteman III ICBM, which forms a crucial part of the U.S. nuclear triad. Northrop Grumman, a key contractor, emphasized progress in achieving program milestones and reducing risks.
Despite cost overruns and schedule delays, the Air Force remains committed to the Sentinel program. Efforts are underway to restructure the program and manage costs to ensure successful development and deployment.
