The Navy awarded Ursa Major a contract to prototype and test a solid rocket-motor for the Standard Missile program. Under the deal, the Denver-based firm will develop a new design for the Navy’s Mk 104 rocket motor. The Mk 104 supports the Navy’s line of Standard Missiles, which include a variety of defense capabilities. Ursa Major’s Lynx production process for SRMs leverages additive manufacturing for high performance and reliability. The contract is worth “single digit millions” and the company unveiled its Lynx additive manufacturing approach last November. Ursa Major aims to streamline production of solid rocket motors to meet high demand. CEO Joe Laurienti believes further consolidation is not the answer to meeting market demand, focusing on making manufacturing processes more similar and common.
