Ukraine’s defensive positions around the village of Krynky on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the southern Kherson region have been destroyed, but operations continue. The army had a bridgehead mission in the village that drew ire from Moscow, leading to intense enemy fire.
Military spokesman Dmytro Lykhoviy stated that Ukrainian forces are still carrying out combat missions in the area, even though most main positions have been destroyed. Russia claimed control of Krynky in February, with President Putin asserting dominance.
Krynky has been reduced to rubble by Russian attacks, making it nearly impossible to maintain defenses. Other bridgeheads are still active on the left bank of the Dnipro River. Russian forces captured portions of the Kherson region in February 2022, but Ukrainian troops recaptured the region’s capital in November that year.
The Kremlin claimed to have annexed all of Kherson in late 2022, with ongoing shelling from Russian forces across the river. Combat work continues in the region.
