The head of Ukraine’s strategic industries, Oleksandr Kamyshin, declared 2024 “the year of land systems” as his country deploys more drones to the battlefield. These uncrewed weapons have been crucial in Ukraine’s self defense, particularly in targeting and attacks on the front lines where around 10,000 are lost every month. Ukrainian drone builders are considered the most advanced in the world, according to Adam Bry of Skydio. The land-based drones will perform various missions such as demining, medical evacuation, and combat, lightening the burden on Ukrainian soldiers near the 600-mile front line. Ukraine is seeking additional funding for equipment needs, including $2 billion in Foreign Military Financing from the U.S. State Department.
