The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has announced a significant milestone in the ongoing conflict by declaring the destruction of the 10,000th Russian tank on the battlefield. This announcement was made in a social media update on February 10, 2025, amid escalating combat operations. This figure represents over half of Moscow’s pre-invasion tank inventory, which was estimated at 16,970.
Despite Ukraine’s claim, the open-source intelligence website Oryx reports a much lower total, documenting that 3,740 Russian tanks have been neutralized, of which 2,672 have been verified as destroyed. While it is challenging to independently confirm these figures, some Western sources consider Ukraine’s estimates to be reasonably accurate.
In addition to tank losses, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense indicates that Russia’s total personnel losses have exceeded 850,000 since the conflict began in February 2022. Estimates from the US Department of Defense and the UK Ministry of Defence report Russian casualty figures to be approximately 700,000 and 837,000, respectively.
Furthermore, Ukraine’s statistics reveal significant additional losses for Russian forces, including the destruction of around 20,000 armored fighting vehicles, 22,879 artillery systems, and 1,273 multiple launch rocket systems. As of February 10, 2025, Russian air defense capabilities have also faced severe setbacks, with 1,059 systems reported as neutralized. Moreover, with the rising deployment of drones, Ukraine claims to have destroyed at least 24,500 Russian unmanned aerial systems, while its air defense has effectively neutralized over 3,000 hostile cruise missiles and 370 aircraft.
