Ukraine’s SBU security service carried out a record-distance drone strike on a Russian oil refinery located nearly 1,200 kilometers (746 miles) from the border, a Ukrainian defense source said Thursday. The strike on the refinery in the Russian republic of Bashkortostan was carried out at a record range with the drone flying a distance of 1,500 kilometers. Additionally, there was a strike on two oil depots in the Krasnodar region in southern Russia.
Russian emergency services reported damage to a pumping station at the Salavat refinery in Bashkortostan, which belongs to Russian energy giant Gazprom. Fortunately, there were no casualties and no fire as a result of the strike. Local authorities noted that smoke rose above the refinery but it continued to function as normal.
The attack occurred as Russia celebrated the anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany. Despite the provocation, Republic Head Radiy Khabirov stated that they do not intend to give in to provocations.
