Ukraine said Thursday it had destroyed a Russian warship in the Black Sea off the Crimean peninsula. Crimea, which was annexed by Moscow in 2014, has been extensively targeted by Ukrainian drones and missiles. Russia’s Black Sea Fleet is located in Crimea.
The Ukraine military intelligence agency stated that an enemy missile corvette named the Ivanovets was destroyed. The agency claimed the ship was worth up to $70 million. Ukraine published a night-vision video purporting to show the attack near Lake Donuzlav.
Kyiv said the attack occurred near Lake Donuzlav, on the western coast of Crimea, and claimed a Russian search and rescue operation was “not successful.” Russia made no immediate statement, but a Russian Telegram account with army links said Ukraine had attacked in the area with nine naval drones at night.
On Wednesday, Russia said it destroyed 20 Ukrainian missiles over the Black Sea and Crimea. Moscow annexed Crimea in 2014 and invaded Ukraine from several directions, including from the Black Sea peninsula.
