The Ukrainian military, with continued support from Western allies, is narrowing the gap with Russia in artillery shell usage. According to Kyiv’s deputy defense minister Ivan Havryliuk, the current ratio of artillery fires on the battlefield is 1:3, an improvement from earlier this year when it was 1:5. The General warned that the ratio could worsen to 1:10 without more ammunition and weapons from Washington.
While more Western-supplied ammunition has reached the Ukrainian frontline in the second quarter of this year, Moscow still holds an advantage in production capabilities. Kyiv struggles to compete and relies heavily on foreign support for weapons and military equipment. The US recently announced a $375 million military aid package for Ukraine, including additional weapons and artillery rounds. European nations have also pledged to help replenish Ukraine’s ammunition stockpiles through supplies or local production.
