On February 26, 2025, Ukraine expressed support for a United States proposal for a 30-day general ceasefire with Russia. This proposal includes provisions for the United States to lift its restrictions on military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine.
Following discussions held in Saudi Arabia, both parties reached an agreement to finalize a deal concerning Ukrainian minerals as soon as possible. In their joint statement, Ukraine confirmed its readiness to enact an immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire, which may be extended with mutual consent from both Ukraine and Russia.
The joint statement further emphasized that the United States would notify Russia that achieving peace hinges on Russian reciprocity. Additionally, the United States pledged to immediately resume intelligence sharing and security assistance to Ukraine, which had been paused following a meeting between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on February 28, 2020.
