Two companies, Aurora Flight Sciences and Bell Textron, Inc., have been awarded contracts for Phase 1B of the Speed and Runway Independent Technologies (SPRINT) program by DARPA as of May 2024. The SPRINT “X-plane” program aims to develop a high-speed, runway-independent aircraft that can take off and land from anywhere. DARPA has partnered with Air Force Special Operations Command on the SPRINT plane to address the need for rapid deployment in the Pacific region. Bell Textron, Inc. expressed their honor in being selected for the next phase of the program and is ready to execute the preliminary design work.
