The Navy removed Capt. Zaldy Valenzuela and Cmdr. Art Palalay from their positions at the U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Center in Yokosuka, Japan, citing a “loss of confidence” in their ability to command. Capt. Dan Lannamann from Norfolk, Virginia, is now in charge, with Cmdr. Timothy Emge serving as acting executive officer. The Navy emphasized the high standards for commanding officers and provided no additional details on the reasons for the removals. Valenzuela’s previous assignments include ship superintendent at SRF-JRMC, while Palalay served as the readiness officer at Commander Naval Surface Forces Pacific before becoming XO of SRF-JRMC in 2023. The maintenance center in Yokosuka conducts maintenance and repairs for Navy ships in the 7th Fleet, with six dry docks available.
