Thousands of people in Berlin on Thursday demonstrated against Germany’s military support for Ukraine as it battles Russian troops. Participants answered a call by a left-wing collective, demanding Germany stop sending weapons to Ukraine. The protest preceded Joe Biden’s upcoming state visit, during which he will discuss military support for Ukraine at a US army base in Ramstein. Far-left leader Sahra Wagenknecht opposes weapon deliveries to Kyiv and US long-range missiles in Germany. Germany plans to reduce military aid to Ukraine next year, despite being the second-largest contributor after the US. The far-right AfD party has criticized Chancellor Scholz’s support for Ukraine and called for a ceasefire. Germany and the EU’s diplomatic efforts towards Russia have been deemed “too indecisive.”
