Gen. David Thompson recently retired as Vice Chief of Space Operations, after explaining the U.S. Space Force’s role at Purdue University. He highlighted how the service operates GPS satellites, satellites for communications, weather, and tracking objects, that orbits the earth. In an interview, Thompson shared challenges in standing up the Space Force, plans to grow and modernize, and the role of the commercial sector in developing new capabilities. He also discussed the need for increased space budget due to the need to migrate more missions to space.
