The Army Applications Laboratory is developing autonomous operation for forklifts to assist in moving supplies during potential future conflicts. The lab is working on a way to convert existing forklifts to autonomous operation rather than purchasing new ones. The lab has hired TracksNA to develop the self-operating forklift software, and soldiers and engineers will run forklifts through tests in late October. These “touchpoints” are critical for training robot forklifts, as they require interaction with human operators to learn necessary experiences and data for training the vehicles.
