Saab’s Combat Boat 90 first entered service with the Swedish Navy in 1991 as a fully manual vessel designed for high-speed operations but has been transformed into an uncrewed system with navigation and communication systems, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance sensors.
Saab’s U.S. subsidiary plans to use the Enforcer 3 variant of the CB90 in a new tech incubator called Skapa in San Diego, focusing on uncrewed systems and artificial intelligence to address the Defense Department’s evolving requirements.
Skapa will concentrate on naval autonomy, digital and AI tech, and maritime domain awareness, providing a launching pad for new ideas and products with plans to test capabilities and deploy the boat in military exercises.
Saab is actively working to partner with tech firms to integrate Enforcer 3’s kit, including its autonomy package, on other systems for accelerated capability delivery to the fleet.
