Spain has donated two armored ambulances to Ukraine as part of the EU’s aid to the war-torn country. The two refurbished military vehicles will be used exclusively for humanitarian missions, deployed only for patient evacuation and medical care. The ambulances are part of a request made by Ukraine’s Ministry of Health to the EU as part of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, an initiative that fosters international cooperation to improve prevention, preparedness, and responses to disasters. Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation José Manuel Albares explained that the donation signifies the country’s dedication to helping Ukraine in its time of need. Spain’s humanitarian aid includes previously donating a Role II Plus field hospital, capable of housing urgent surgeries and other critical, intensive-care services.
Aside from medical assistance, Spain has also donated arms and defense equipment to help Ukraine fend off Russia’s forces. So far, it has delivered Raytheon Hawk air defense systems, Leopard battle tanks, and a 200-ton shipment of military materials ranging from transport vehicles to ammunition. It also hosted Ukrainian troops in February 2023 for a four-week training course focusing on armored battle tank operations.
