The Space Force has requested more than $1 billion from Congress for high-priority projects not included in its fiscal 2025 budget request, including $846 million in classified projects and $305 million for resiliency and training.
The Space Force’s list focuses on making satellites and ground systems resilient against threats and includes efforts such as building smaller satellites in key mission areas.
Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall noted that the $29.4 billion FY25 funding request is sufficient, but more funding is needed for missions like positioning, navigation, timing, and classified counterspace efforts.
Unfunded projects include $159 million for commercial satellite communications, $42.5 million for the Space Development Agency’s satellites, and $60 million for energy efficiency at Buckley Space Force Base.
Additional funding of $59 million would support more Rocket Systems Launch Program missions, critical for innovation and security in space according to the Space Force.
