The Space Force announced two new missions to demonstrate highly maneuverable space vehicles for quick response to threats. Impulse Space won a $34.5 million contract for two spacecraft, Mira, capable of hosting multiple payloads.
The missions, set for 2026, aim to showcase tactically responsive space capabilities. Previous demonstrations in 2021 and 2025 highlighted quick satellite and launch responses during crises. The 2026 missions will prioritize in-space operations.
The first mission, Victus Surgo, will utilize SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket to launch Impulse’s Helios kick stage. The second mission, Victus Salo, will carry an MIT payload on a rideshare.
Both missions will focus on modular interfaces for rapid payload integration and space domain awareness. Space Systems Command emphasized the spacecraft’s high thrust and delta-V propulsion capability.
