The USS Chosin modernization successfully concluded on February 15, 2024, as it slipped through San Diego Bay. Top contractors, U.S. Navy and Marine Corp leaders, and reporters were present at the February 13-15 West conference at the waterfront convention center in San Diego.
Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro issued a warning to industry, and lessons learned from Houthi engagements were discussed. Some highlights include the upgrade of Project Overmatch networking capabilities on Navy ships, Northrop Grumman’s demonstration of its Project Scion initiative electronic warfare payloads for unmanned surface vessels, and the USMC’s test of a new missile-delivery drone.
It was announced that the Navy plans to establish a second unmanned surface drone squadron in May, with the next West conference scheduled for January 2025.
