The remains of a North Korean ballistic missile recovered in Ukraine contained components with the marks of companies headquartered in the United States and Europe, according to the Conflict Armament Research (CAR) report. CAR investigators determined that more than 290 non-domestic electronic components were found in the missile, with 75 percent of the parts linked to US companies and 16 percent tied to European firms. The report also indicated that the missile recovered in Kharkiv could not have been assembled before March 2023.
The White House had stated in early January that North Korea provided Russia with ballistic missiles and missile launchers used in attacks on Ukraine. CAR’s investigation team documented the electronic components of the North Korean missile recovered in Ukraine on January 2, 2024, and concluded that these Western components were being used by Moscow in its war against Ukraine despite heavy sanctions.
