**WARSAW, Poland** — The Polish Ministry of National Defence has signed a deal to acquire over 200 AGM-88G Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missiles-Extended Range (AARGM-ER) from the United States. This acquisition marks Poland as the first ally in the region to obtain advanced capabilities aimed at destroying enemy radar emitters associated with air defense systems.
The missile contract, valued at approximately $745 million, is with Northrop Grumman and aligns with Poland’s imminent delivery of its first batch of 32 ordered F-35 fighter jets, expected next year.
Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister **Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz** stated that the missiles will significantly enhance the combat capacities of the aircraft. According to a ministry announcement, the deal includes “anti-radiation missiles that target, find and affect enemy air defense systems, anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense systems.”
Kosiniak-Kamysz characterized this acquisition as a breakthrough, emphasizing that the fully equipped F-35 aircraft, which can also be adapted for use with F-16 aircraft, will empower the Polish Armed Forces to effectively utilize the advanced capabilities of these modern machines.
Deliveries of the AARGM-ER missiles are scheduled between **2029 and 2035**. This initiative forms part of Poland’s broader strategy to enhance its military capabilities in response to increased security concerns following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in **2022**. In light of these developments, Poland has announced plans to invest about **PLN 160 billion (approximately US$39.7 billion)** in its armed forces by **2025**, which constitutes roughly **4.2 percent** of the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP).
