Norway has inquired about buying up to 16 Lockheed Martin M142 HIMARS rocket systems in a deal worth $580 million, including associated equipment and ammunition. The potential purchase includes 15 GMLRS pods with fragmentation and high-explosive warheads, as well as 100 ATACMS long-range missiles. Norway has yet to make a decision, evaluating options for its long-range precision fires program. Ukrainian use of HIMARS has sparked European interest in rocket artillery systems, with several defense firms teaming up on offers. Poland is the only European operator of Hanwha’s Chunmoo rocket artillery for now. Denmark, Spain, and Germany have also acquired rocket artillery systems. France is also developing competing proposals for a rocket-artillery system.
