North Korea has shipped around 7,000 containers of arms to Russia since transfers began in July. Russia and North Korea, both under global sanctions, have been exchanging weapons. The United States claimed Pyongyang was providing Moscow with weapons after a summit between Putin and Kim. South Korea’s Defense Minister stated that the number of containers shipped has increased to 7,000, with some sent via rail. The US estimated that North Korea had sent over 1,000 containers of military equipment to Russia. Pyongyang was accused of sending over one million artillery rounds to Russia and receiving technical advice in return. North Korea has declared Moscow as its “number one priority”, supporting Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. Kim has congratulated Putin on his re-election and pledged to strengthen DPRK-Russia friendship.
