National Guard soldiers with the 30th Armored Brigade Combat Team conducted field testing of the Next Generation Squad Weapon systems including the XM7 rifle and XM250 automatic rifle at Fort Liberty, North Carolina on June 6, 2024.
The XM7 and XM250 are set to replace the M4 carbine and the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon.
The 101st Airborne Division was the first active duty Army unit to receive the new armaments, and the National Guard’s field test follows this distribution.

South Carolina National Guard soldiers also received the new weapons and conducted training with the XM7 and XM250 at Fort Stewart, Georgia, commenting on the improved accuracy and usability of the rifles.
