The U.S. Army plans to hold a seminar this summer to enhance logistics and sustainment management during a large-scale war, involving Air Mobility Command, U.S. Transportation Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and other senior leaders. The focus will be on coordination in the first 30 to 60 days of conflict.
Despite the siloed nature of planning logistics and sustainment among services, the actual operations require joint effort. Gen. Charles Hamilton shifted Army Materiel Command’s mission statement to focus on the joint global force. The seminar will have a special focus on the Indo-Pacific theater, with a $1.5 billion budget request for fiscal year 2025.
Efforts in contested logistics will include new watercraft, command-and-control gear, and point-of-need sustainment capabilities. The Army aims to work through theater sustainment and logistics to deter China’s aggression. A large-scale combat exercise focused on sustaining the force will be designed based on the seminar outcomes.
Experts and industry partners will contribute to the seminar discussions. Allies and partners will not be part of the initial conversation but are crucial for supply chain, airfields, and ports in large-scale fights. The Army plans to include them in future discussions.
