Two people have been hospitalized after a fire broke out at BAE Systems shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness, northwest England. Cumbria Constabulary stated that there is “no nuclear risk” associated with the fire. The fire broke out soon after midnight and was described as “significant.” Video shared on social media showed flames shooting out from the Devonshire Dock Hall building while alarms blared. Two people were taken to hospitals with suspected smoke inhalation and there were no other casualties. The 150-year-old shipyard, located about 220 miles northwest of London, is currently building nuclear-powered submarines for the Royal Navy, as well as replacements for the U.K.’s nuclear missile-carrying submarines set to enter service in the 2030s.
