On Sunday, French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized the need for “strong measures” to compel Moscow to agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine. This statement followed a bloody attack by Russian forces on the city of Sumy.
Macron stated on X, formerly Twitter, “Everyone knows: this war was initiated by Russia alone.” He criticized Russia for continuing the conflict “with blatant disregard for human lives, international law, and the diplomatic efforts of President (Donald) Trump.” The French President reiterated that “strong measures are needed to impose a ceasefire on Russia,” highlighting the severe impact of the attack, which resulted in “numerous civilian casualties, including children once again.”
According to Ukrainian officials, a Russian missile strike on the center of Sumy killed at least 32 people and injured 99, with children among those affected. The attack occurred on Sunday morning when Kyiv reported that Moscow targeted the northeastern city, which is close to the Russian border, with two ballistic missiles.
