L3Harris Technologies will hit a development milestone for its Viper Shield electronic warfare package this month, with production on track for 2025. The company is constructing Viper Shield for fitting aboard Lockheed Martin F-16 Block 70/72 jets sold to foreign militaries. The milestone, known as “drop 3,” signifies initial radar warning receiver capability. L3Harris President Jen Lewis said the company is ahead of the field in thinking about electromagnetic spectrum operations and data problems. The U.S. Department of Defense is prioritizing sophisticated EW tools as it prepares for larger-scale, higher-tech battles envisioned for the future. L3Harris is the ninth largest defense contractor and earned nearly $14 billion in 2022.
