Franco-German defense group KNDS launched its Ukrainian subsidiary, KNDS Ukraine LLC, in Kyiv this week. The subsidiary will allow local firms to perform maintenance, repair, and overhaul on KNDS platforms, including Leopard 1 and 2 tanks, the Caesar artillery system, the PzH 2000 howitzer, and the Gepard anti-aircraft gun, with approximately 800 systems delivered or contracted for delivery to Ukraine. KNDS Ukraine LLC will utilize 3D printing for spare parts and collaborate with local companies to produce 155mm artillery shells for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
In June, KNDS France signed a letter of intent with Ukraine’s ENMEK to establish a maintenance center for Caesar cannons and 3D print spare parts. Another agreement was made with Ukrainian KZVV for the production transfer of 155mm rounds. KNDS plans to commence ammunition production in Ukraine within 12 months, followed by the production of system modules and entire systems, as reported by Defense News in June, based on comments from KNDS chairman Philippe Petitcolin.
