Gaza’s civil defense agency confirmed that an Israeli air strike killed 10 family members of Hamas’ Qatar-based chief Ismail Haniyeh, including his sister. The strike hit the Haniyeh family home in Al-Shati refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip. The Hamas-ruled territory’s civil defense spokesman said a number of bodies were likely still under the rubble.
Hamas, considered a terrorist organization by Israel and key Western allies, condemned the attack on the Haniyeh family home as a massacre. In the ongoing conflict, Hamas has accused Israel of deliberately targeting innocent civilians. Ismail Haniyeh has previously lost three sons and four grandchildren in an Israeli strike.
Since the war broke out on October 7 after Hamas’ attack on southern Israel, the conflict has resulted in the deaths of 1,195 people, mostly civilians. Israel’s campaign has killed at least 37,626 people in Gaza, predominantly civilians, according to the territory’s health ministry.
