Iran has warned that all Resistance Fronts would confront Israel if it attacked Lebanon. The comment came from Iran’s mission to New York amid fears of a wider regional war involving Israel and Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah movement. Escalated exchanges of fire have occurred this month, with Israel’s military approving plans for a Lebanon offensive and Hezbollah warning of a full-blown conflict. Iran deems the Zionist regime’s propaganda about attacking Lebanon as psychological warfare but has stated that full-scale military aggression would lead to an obliterating war involving all Resistance Fronts.
The war in Gaza began in October with Hamas Palestinian militants attacking southern Israel. Iran, which backs Hamas, praised the attack as a success but denied involvement. Alongside Hezbollah’s attacks on northern Israel, Iran-backed rebels in Yemen have struck commercial ships in the Red Sea area in solidarity with the Palestinians. Iran also supports other groups in the region and has not recognized Israel since the 1979 revolution.
Fears of regional war heightened in April after an air strike leveled Iran’s consulate in Damascus, killing seven Revolutionary Guards. Iran retaliated with a drone and missile attack on Israel. Explosions in the province of Isfahan were reported, with American officials stating Israel carried out retaliatory strikes. Tehran downplayed the reported Israeli raid.
