The annual report released by Turkey’s Defense Ministry on March 7, 2023, detailed activities carried out in 2023 and future goals. The report listed 49 ongoing modernization and acquisition projects across the military, including significant projects such as the modernization of M60 tanks, Leopard 2 A4 tanks, T-155 Firtina self-propelled howitzers, and ACV-15 vehicles for the Land Forces.
For the Naval Forces, key projects include the Milden submarine project, Reis-class submarine program, Preveze-class submarine upgrades, and Barbaros-class frigate modernization. The report outlined construction plans for Turkey’s first indigenous submarine program and ongoing work on the production of submarines.
In the Air Forces, projects like the F-16 fighter jet modernization, procurement of new F-16 Block 70 aircraft, and extension of structural service life of F-16C/D Block 40/50 aircraft were highlighted. Efforts to acquire Akinci and Anka-S drones, develop the Hürjet aircraft for pilot training, and introduce the Hürkuş-B aircraft for combat readiness training were also detailed in the report.
