Spain’s Indra Sistemas SA is focusing on its defense and aerospace businesses in a new 2030 strategy to become an international player, targeting increased military spending by European NATO members after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Indra aims to lead the consolidation of the Spanish defense industry and become the Spanish coordinator in European defense programs. The EU has proposed a €1.5 billion plan to boost defense production and promote joint military projects among member states.
The company expects its defense sales to grow 42% organically over the next three years to €1.1 billion, with defense currently accounting for about a fifth of its revenue. Indra projects overall sales of €6 billion in 2026, including €700 million added through mergers and acquisitions, with M&A activity focused on bolstering capabilities in the defense sector.
Indra is simplifying its defense-product portfolio and setting up a new space division aiming for €1 billion in revenue by 2030 to become a tier-one European player in the space sector. The company also plans to seek shareholders for its information-technology business Minsait while maintaining a significant stake in the unit due to synergies with defense and aerospace operations.
