A Houthi delegation, including spokesman Mohammed Abdel Salam, visited Moscow on Thursday to discuss the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the need to increase pressure on the US and Israel. The rebel group has been launching frequent attacks on ships in the Red Sea since mid-November to pressure Israel to end the war in Gaza.
Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov met with the Houthi delegation, and Abdel Salam stated that the meeting discussed the US and British strikes on the rebels. The delegation emphasized the need for the US to stop aggression in Gaza and deliver humanitarian assistance rather than militarize the Red Sea.
The US and Britain launched retaliatory strikes on the Iran-backed rebels in response to the attacks on ships in the Red Sea. Washington also designated the Houthi group as a “terrorist” organization. The Russian foreign ministry strongly condemned these strikes during the talks with the Houthi delegation, expressing concerns about their potential to destabilize the region.
