Hanwha Aerospace is looking to sell its K239 Chunmoo rocket artillery system to Norway and Sweden with short delivery time and price advantages over competitors. The company is showcasing its multiple rocket launch system in Europe for the first time at the Eurosatory defense show in Paris, facing competition from Elbit Systems and Rheinmetall/Lockheed Martin.
French firms Safran and Thales are developing rival proposals in response to French demand for a rocket system. Hanwha aims to deliver a battalion-sized batch of 16-18 Chunmoo launchers to each country by 2030. Norway may decide by end of year, while Sweden may follow later due to budget constraints.
Netherlands, Denmark, and Spain have purchased the Elbit Systems PULS rocket system. Germany plans to order the PULS or GMARS from Rheinmetall/Lockheed Martin. Hanwha’s open architecture allows countries to use their own chassis for the launcher.
Hanwha’s rocket artillery can fire munitions up to 290 km away, including a 239mm rocket with 80km range and a 280mm rocket with 160km range. The company plans to integrate 122mm unguided rockets for Poland. Hanwha is considering setting up a “user club” for the system and faces no issues with component supplies.
