Norwegian drone maker Griff Aviation is donating its heavy-lift GRIFF 60 cargo drone to the Ukrainian military to support frontline logistics and resupply operations. The announcement was made on [Next Generation Defense](http://nextgendefense.com/).
The GRIFF 60 drone, powered by eight rotors, has a cargo capacity of up to 60 kilograms (132 pounds), allowing it to transport ammunition, medical supplies, and rations without risking personnel. It boasts a flight endurance of 33 minutes, making it suitable for fast, agile missions with minimal exposure time.
The donation is being made “on their own initiative” by Griff Aviation. The drone will be delivered to Ukraine through the Norwegian volunteer organization Fritt Ukraina. A volunteer from the organization emphasized the importance of the donation, stating, “The most important thing we can do from Norway is to give Ukrainians the opportunity to protect themselves. This drone can do just that and save the lives of Ukrainian soldiers.”
### Norway’s Support for Ukraine
Norway ranks among Ukraine’s top European defense partners, committing 85 billion Norwegian krone (approximately $7.8 billion) in aid for the year. This support largely comes through the Nansen Support Programme, which funds military deliveries and critical civilian aid, including energy infrastructure repairs and humanitarian relief efforts.
Additionally, Norway has pledged to provide F-16 fighter jets, air defense systems, artillery shells, and armored vehicles, thus significantly enhancing Ukraine’s combat readiness. The Norwegian government is also involved in training Ukrainian forces and supports a full brigade under a broader European initiative.
In August 2024, the Norwegian government approved a technology transfer that enables the production of 155mm artillery shells in Ukraine.
