Israel deployed its ship-mounted defense system, C-Dome, for the first time against a “suspicious” target near Eilat on Monday evening. The C-Dome is a naval version of Iron Dome, used to shield against rocket and missile attacks. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported an alert in Eilat, which had been targeted by Houthi rebels in February. Naval forces successfully intercepted the target with C-Dome without any injuries or damage reported. Mounted on Sa’ar 6-class corvettes, the C-Dome uses the same interceptor as Iron Dome. The land-based Iron Dome has intercepted rockets from Gaza and costs roughly $50,000 per launch.
