Shipbuilder Fincantieri is sending in robots in order to ramp up schedules at its Marinette Marine yard in Wisconsin, USA. Pierroberto Folgiero, the CEO of the Italian company, claims that the introduction of robot welding triples productivity and increases quality.
Fincantieri has announced plans to build two of the frigates every year at its Marinette Marine yard, with an expected completion date of 2026. They also introduced a welding robot, MR4Weld, developed with Italian firm Comau in July.
Fincantieri also recently partnered with Leonardo in order to work on drones to protect undersea cables and pipelines. They also predict military sub-sea spending in the near future to total € 94 billion ($103 billion) between 2024 and 2030.
