The Pentagon is set to resume accepting new F-35s this month, following a hold up due to software issues. Gen. Kenneth Wilsbach of the Air Combat Command stated that the government stopped accepting new F-35s last July due to problems with Technology Refresh-3. The Air Force is considering options to fix power and cooling issues with the F-35, with a priority on improvements going forward.
Wilsbach clarified that there is no official replacement program for the F-22, despite previous claims about the Next Generation Air Dominance program. He emphasized that upgrades are planned for the F-22 and the complement with the F-35 is important. The NGAD downselect is expected to happen this year, although the program has experienced significant delays.
Additionally, Wilsbach highlighted the strength of the Air Force fleet, mentioning the F-15EX deliveries and the declared initial operating capability for the F-15EX. The service is upgrading the F-16 with new electronic warfare suites and radar technology for better capabilities.
