A Russian attack in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv has resulted in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to three others, according to a statement from the city’s military administration on Saturday. Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, confirmed the casualties, specifying that they occurred in the Shevchenkivsky district.
Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, had earlier issued a warning regarding a “ballistic missile threat” to the capital, stating that the city’s air defense systems were activated in response. Following the attack, Klitschko reported that a building in Shevchenkivsky district had sustained broken windows and visible smoke, while damage to a water pipeline was also noted.
In addition to the building damage, a metro station near the city center was affected and temporarily closed, with Kyiv’s trains bypassing that stop. This attack marks a rare strike on the core of the Ukrainian capital, occurring amid Ukraine’s recent escalated aerial assaults on Russian energy and military installations.
The Ukrainian military has successfully targeted several Russian oil depots in recent months, including two significant strikes on a facility near a military airfield in Russia’s Saratov region, which resulted in prolonged fires.
On the same day, Russian forces launched an attack on the center of Zaporizhzhia, leading to injuries for two people, as reported by local governor Ivan Fedorov. He noted that an administrative building of an industrial facility sustained partial damage due to the assault.
