San Diego – The U.S. Marine Corps is testing a new missile-delivery drone in an operational scenario. Lt. Gen. Karsten Heckl, deputy commandant of the Marine Corps for combat development and integration, stated the service has been working on two autonomous, low-profile vessels to carry two Naval Strike Missiles to Marine units ashore. The boats are designed to be stealthy and difficult to track, and are being tested in California at the Army-led Project Convergence Capstone 4 event. Tests have been successful so far and the cost is low, allowing the craft to be expendable if lost. If the Marine Corps decides to purchase these in larger numbers, a larger contractor for production will be required.
