US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin expressed support for Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant in dismantling attack infrastructure along the border with Lebanon after Israel launched targeted ground raids on Hezbollah. Austin also warned Iran of serious consequences if it directly attacks Israel in response to their actions against the Tehran-backed militant group. The two officials agreed on the necessity of dismantling attack infrastructure to prevent Hezbollah from conducting attacks on Israel’s northern communities. Despite a strike killing Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Gallant indicated that Israel’s military action in Lebanon was not over. Austin reiterated the need for a diplomatic resolution to ensure civilian safety on both sides of the border and emphasized the US’s readiness to defend personnel, partners, and allies against threats from Iran and Iran-backed terrorist organizations.
